The credit union was formed in 1944 and recently celebrated reaching the milestone of $100 million in assets. About First Credit Union
First Credit Union is a community-based credit union with branches in Powell River, Bowen Island, Texada Island, Courtenay and Cumberland. They offer a complete suite of financial products and services to over 12,000 members. First Credit Union began operations in 1939 as the first credit union incorporated in the province of British Columbia. Over their long and proud history, they have grown to over $500 million in assets.
The vision of First Credit Union is ‘to build financially healthy communities’; they do this by focusing on diversity, equity and inclusion, environmental sustainability, and local economic development. Members have traditionally participated in annual profit sharing and dividends.
